Curriculum

Our experienced educators, developers, and content creators combined to build a curriculum that is loaded with learning materials designed to teach modern technologies and equip you with relevant skills you need to get a job as a developer. What we teach in the virtual classroom is what you will see in the world of professional development.

Project Based Learning

The best way to gain the skills you need to be job ready is through hands-on experience. You will put together a portfolio of real-world projects that will showcase you have what it takes to get hired. Most graded projects will receive recorded instructor video feedback, so that you know what you did well, what areas you need to improve, and gain a better understanding of the code.

What You Will Learn in the Curriculum

The Software Development program continues where other seemingly similar programs end. Why? The modern software developer is now expected to know several different technologies including programming languages, libraries and frameworks that are used with those languages, relational and non-relational databases, backend development, and frontend development. This is why our curriculum is packed full of great content and value to prepare you for the role as a modern software developer.

Fundamentals
Fundamentals
MODULE 1
Programming Fundamentals

Python is a popular programming language developed by Microsoft that allows developers and engineers to build a variety of applications.

In this module, you will learn the fundamentals of programming, problem solving, critical thinking, and debugging.

You will learn the importance of version control with Git and GitHub to ensure your code is stored safely and easily shareable with other developers.

Python
Python
MODULE 2
Advanced Python

Building off the foundations set in the first module, you will dive into more intermediate concepts.

These include object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures, time complexity, interfaces, SOLID design principles, error handling, UML class diagrams, test-driven development, and automated unit testing.

SQL
SQL
MODULE 3
Structured Query Language

Relational databases are what this module is all about. You'll discover how to design databases using the entity-relationship diagram, how to create, normalize, and navigate your database, and how to structure and query your data efficiently.

You'll learn how to map and send data from your application to the database, and retrieve data from your database for your application.

CORE
Django
MODULE 4
Web Application Framework

To be a good Software Engineer, it is important to understand web application frameworks, especially how to get the client, server, and the database to communicate and work together.

This module will focus on Django Web Framework, an open-source cloud-ready framework for building applications. You will learn about ORM with Django ORM, using Django to query data in Python, web application best practices, creating data models and view endpoints, and how to design and build a functional web application.

API
API
MODULE 5
ASP.NET & APIs

ASP.NET Core Web API is a powerful tool that allows you to take what you learned in the previous modules and apply it to building a backend web API for your software apps.

You will learn about virtual environments, querying in Django REST Framework, API architecture and development best practices, how to use Postman to test APIs, and how to utilize the benefits of Django REST Frameworkto build a functioning REST API.

HTML
HTML/CSS
MODULE 6
Markup & Styling

In this module you will learn the fundamentals of web design, DOM manipulation, Lighthouse testing and accessibility, how to place and arrange elements on a page to bring your ideas to life, and how to style those elements with responsive design by writing custom CSS.

There will be a focus on mobile-first design and improving your UI/UX skills through industry-driven techniques.

JS
JS
MODULE 7
JavaScript

JavaScript is a popular programming language that plays an important role in frontend development.

It allows for more user interaction on websites and for visualizing easily-consumed analyzed data.

You will learn functional programming, higher order array methods, callbacks, debugging in the browser, and how to write code efficiently.

React.js is a popular JavaScript library for building beautiful user interfaces and client-side applications.

You will learn about components, React Hooks, how to take in user input with forms, how to route users with React router, how to make HTTP requests to APIs with Axios, how to authenticate with JSON Web Token, and how to bring it together to create impressive frontend applications.

CAP
Capstone
MODULE 9
Bring it all Together

The capstone project is the final project where students take everything they learned and bring it all together. It is the project that showcases the skills necessary to get a job in the industry.

Each student's final project is an individual capstone in which you bring an idea you have for an app to life in the form of a fully-functioning software application. It is an opportunity to get more familiar with the tools you have learned, push yourself to great heights, implement proper design and development, and showcase your abilities to be a professional software developer.
